A day in the life of

Marissa a full time mom.
at 5:50 a.m. every day I wake up, there is no such thing as pressing the snooze button. I make my way down the hall to the bathroom to remove my retainers and catch a glimpse at the crazy mess I have become over the past 6 or 7 hours. I drag my tired self to the kitchen to prepare a bottle. After sluggishly putting a bottle together I head off to go get the boss out of bed. By the time we make it back to the living room it is 5:58, I turn on the TV to watch the morning news I have come to love. I feed Shia and cuddle him while he stares up at me in amazement because in his eyes only mommy can prepare such a delicious meal. After a good burp and a couple of smiles we make our way back to his room. I lay him down and make sure he is comfy. I walk back to the living room with a little more energy and clean the bottle then cuddle up on the couch to finish the news out because by this time all the good stuff is being reported. 6:30 hits me like a ton of bricks and I couldn’t be more happy to go back to my affair with the bed. 8:30 I wake up to chatter in some other language nope it isn’t my foreign neighbors, it is my son yelling at his mobile, bumper, and stuffed animals it is very serious. I wonder what he is saying while he is letting them have it. Sure enough within 5 minutes he is knocked out again. 9 a.m. sharp my alarm clock goes off and I start my official shift, no getting all pretty and taking time to eat, again the snooze button doesn’t exist.
I go to my boss’s office and get him ready for the day. I usually get peed on right about that time and my boss laughs hysterically, at times he has a cruel sense of humor. Once in the main office his morning meeting starts by him lining out all the others by babbling at them and chasing them. I watch in amusement but it isn’t to long before I have to tell him “NO” because as routine he is trying to drag anything and everything off that is at eye level.
Then is it time for a break, well for the boss. I set him up in his throne and prepare a bottle. While he suckles down the milk I make him cereal with apple which all the while he is watching me in anticipation. I spoon feed him by his own orders because eating with his hands isn’t an option in his book. He yells at me with excitement in the language I heard previously in the morning. The boss plays and yells while I clean up.
Now it is time to go into his morning work out of harassing the cat. I watch him like a hawk to be sure the cat doesn’t actually fight back. He starts to get annoyed and irritated by just about everything which means it is time for a nap. You’d think this is the moment I get to have a break but nope. It is time for mommy to clean up and tend to the other jobs she has.
2 hours pass and once I settle into the comfy chair I hear the boss ordering I get him out of his crib now! He gives me a huge smile followed by his version of a hug. Sometimes if I have been really good so far he’ll grab my face and kiss me. I give him a proper diaper change which we call a butt cleaning. Now it is time to collect all his favorite toys and play fetch. By playing fetch I mean he throws his toys and I have to retrieve them or the dogs will make them their own. If I don’t return them promptly he yells.
Time for lunch, it is just about 2 in the afternoon. I prepare a bottle for him and cuddle him while he eats. After he is finished we play silly games like pulling mommy’s hair and who can laugh the loudest. The boss has now been awake for almost 2 hours and is showing signs of needing another nap.
After laying him down I clean up the mess we have made together and go start the shower. I know I have to shower quick because the boss could wake up at any moment. Looking at my makeup box feeling terrible for neglecting it I try to figure out which day it is because maybe we might go out when Brandon gets home then I remember I’ve got about 5 minutes to blow dry my hair. After I have done my routine I hear the boss again ordering I get him out of his crib at once!
We do the same as previous activities in the day. The time rolls around for dinner which is always served at 6 o’clock sharp. The boss is completely aware it is time for real food. He scarves done a nice dinner usually vegetables and give me his version of a thumbs up by smiling and talking. Now we return to our activity of the moment. 7 o’clock hits and it is time for yet another nap.
I clean and make sure everything is a go for the night time routine. 2 hours pass and it is time to wake the boss up for his bath. At first he fights with all his might because he was having amazing dreams then he realizes it is bath time and gets so excited he can’t sit still. He taste every toy and wash cloth during bath time and yells with delight. Once all shiny and new we make our way back to his room to get a baby massage and bundle up for the cold night. It is roughly 9:30 by this time and we cuddle up in his rocker to read a book just before his night time bottle.
He has another delicious bottle at 10. During the bottle he rubs in his eyes in exhaustion because he has been a long day for the boss. Finally it is time for the very busy boss to sleep, daddy joins me to tuck him in and we watch our little boss man drift off into slumber. Mommy’s day isn’t over just yet though. I’ve got to make sure everything is ready for the next day and clean. Finally 11:30 rolls around and I climb into bed. I sleep peacefully knowing that I am doing the most rewarding job ever, being a mommy.
I work days and nights. I don’t get sick pay or days offs. The breaks I do get I spend them making sure everything is just so. I am a nurse, photographer, chef, drool rag, body guard, chauffeur, personal assistant, maid, alarm clock, waitress, teacher, event planner, accountant, ATM, and pillow. I am a stay at home mom.
